Named after the flat-topped hill on the island of Raasay, our opening hole is played downhill from a tee about 70 yards beyond the clubhouse. This gives a significantly different line of play from that used when it is played as the 10th, though both enjoy a lovely view towards the island of Raasay. The 1st and 10th fairways, separated by a meandering burn, meet before a short, steep slope. Keeping your drive reasonably straight is key: too far left and you will tangle with the stone wall running alongside the latter part of the hole; too far right and you will find deep rough or even OOB. Longer hitters will be able to drive down the slope short of the green or perhaps even reach the green. Shorter hitters will be left with an approach from the upper part of the fairway. The green slopes towards the sea so stopping the ball quickly can prove difficult. Beware of running through as this can leave your ball up against the supporting wall of the 6th/11th tee. (There is a Drop Zone - no penalty - if your ball lies in an unplayable position due to the tee wall or the steps.)
